Scouting Ministry

Scouting Ministry

The ministries of the local church are implemented through our encounter with God’s redeeming love for the world and with his action in the world. To achieve this ministry, we should be involved in age-level or family groupings.  Usually a variety of settings are essential. The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church 1996, paragraph 258, designates two specific settings for the Youth Ministry, The United Methodist Youth Fellowship and the Scouting ministry.

Scouting programs stress and promote citizenship, character development and physical fitness.  St. Mark’s has for many years included the Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA.  These are programs that have demonstrated effective faith modeling through the church and serve as effective ministries and outreach to church and community youth.  The United Methodist Church is the number one sponsor of the program of the Boy Scouts of America, having ended 1996 with 407,243 registered youth and 11,587 units (Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Explorer Posts).

St. Mark’s Scouting Coordinator is Mike Warren. (615) 896-1994 or mike11345@aol.com.

Boy Scout Troop 398

Our mission is simple. We deliver the promise made in the Boy Scout Handbook: Adventure, Friendship, Outdoor Skills, Leadership, Values and, most of all, Fun!  Boy Scout Troop 398 currently has over 60 youth members from throughout the community. Many adult volunteers are needed to provide a quality program for our scouts. We welcome your help-whether it is teaching a skill for a few hours or serving in a leadership role. We promise you lots of good food, fellowship and fun! Troop meetings are Mondays nights from 7:00-8:30 p.m. For more about Troop 398 CLICK HERE.

Cub Scout Pack 398

Cub Scouting is a family oriented program for boys ages 7 to 11. Scouting is a great way to dedicate time each month to share with your son and build memories for a lifetime. We have regular den and pack meetings, while mixing in other pack activities that include camping, hiking, service projects, and fishing to name a few. We meet the 2nd and 4th Mondays from September through May; 6:00-7:00 p.m.
