ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
SUNDAY MORNINGS,
9:45 - 10:45 AM

      COLLEGE AND CAREER
      College students, both local and enjoying a weekend at home, recent graduates, and those already in the work force gather to explore faith and current issues.  This is a discussion class where each week’s topic stands alone.  College and Career meets in the Office Workroom.  Contact Natalie Beckman, 893-1233.

      CORNERSTONE
      Couples and singles in a wide range of ages enjoying Bible-based and topical discussion.  Members share teaching responsibility.  Cornerstone is very mission-minded.  The class stocks and maintains an emergency food bank and supports the SOS phone card fund for soldiers.  Cornerstone also works with the UMYF to organize the Christmas Mission Project, providing gifts for 30 community children and their siblings.  The class enjoys several social gatherings in addition to their annual Christmas party.  Cornerstone meets in Room 406.  Contact Tom Hooper at 898-0287 for more information.

      DAN SCOTT
      Adult couples and singles studying the International Lesson Series “Adult Bible Studies.”  This class is led by Dan Scott; every session opens with singing.  The class supports a number of ministries, including Children of Mexico, Community Helpers, Room in the Inn and St. Mark’s  UMYF.  The Dan Scott Class meets in the Chapel, Room 502.  Contact Joyce Arnold at 896-2597 for more information.

      DIMENSIONS OF FAITH
      Mid-life couples and singles studying the Bible, sharing Christian beliefs and discussing social issues. The class members share teaching responsibilities.    Dimensions of Faith collects funds throughout the year for adopting families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The class enjoys numerous social gatherings, including an annual Christmas party.  Dimensions of Faith meets in the Choir Room, Room 503/505.  Contact Sherrie Gilliam at 890-9699 for more information.

      DISCUSSION
      Adults of all ages sharing lively discussion of contemporary theology and progressive Christianity.   Conversation centers around a current book being read by class members, who take turns facilitating the discussion.  This class supports Heifer Project International and enjoys an annual Christmas party.  The Discussion Class meets in Room 506.       FOUNDATION CLASS
      The Foundation Class is a newly formed group of couples in their 30's to early 40's geared toward getting back to the very foundations of our Christian and Methodist roots. Studies are scripture-based and discussions are guaranteed to be creative and lively! Come see how we can look with new perspective on age-old stories and ideas!       GENESIS NETWORK
      Young singles and couples exploring issues of faith and life. This is a class-led, discussion-based group that studies biblical curriculum paired with life application. Genesis Network provides quarterly meals to Room in the Inn.  Class socials include dinner outings, group gatherings and cookouts, and Girls/Guys Nights Out.  Genesis Network meets in Room 402/404.  Contact Matt and Jennifer Marlatt at 867-9112 for more information.

      G.I.F.T.
      GROWING IN FAITH TOGETHER
      A group for young adults beyond college, including singles, persons newly married and those just starting their families.  This Young Adult Class meets in Room 405.  Contact Mary Beth Baker, 890-8232.

      GOOD NEWS 
      Cottage size group Bible study that welcomes all ages.  The Good News class meets in the Library.  The class supports Disaster Relief, local missions, and other ministries.  We have an annual Christmas Party and share in our Church’s activities.  (Cecil Smith also leads the class when needed.)  Contact Joe and Susan Green at 890-0772 for more information.

      MINERVA HARRELL 
      Women studying the International Lesson Series “Adult Bible Studies.” The Minerva Harrell Class supports Martin Methodist College, the Rutherford County Food Bank, and Children of Mexico, and also provides an annual scholarship for a local ministerial student.  They have bi-monthly business luncheons and enjoy an annual Christmas party with spouses. The Minerva Harrell Class meets in the Parlor, Room 501.  Contact Joann Henley at 895-0287.

      MIXED BLESSINGS
      Couples and singles building Christian faith and discipleship through study of the Bible and topics of faith, from medical ethics to the apostle Paul.   Members share teaching responsibilities for this discussion class.  The class enjoys family picnics, an annual Christmas party, and other social gatherings through the year.   Mixed Blessings meets in the Banquet Hall just outside of the Worship Center.  Contact Russ and Sherry Galloway at 895-1637 for more information.

      NEW HORIZONS
      Singles and couples exploring faith and the Bible, marriage and parenting in discussion.  New Horizons adopts a family at Christmas and supports Room in the Inn.  The class enjoys a number of social events, including a summer family picnic and annual Christmas party. New Horizons meets in Room 403.  Contact Kevin Clement, 890-4109.

      PATHFINDERS 
      Adults of all ages seeking God’s message for daily living through study of the Bible and supportive curriculum.  The Pathfinders support the MTSU Wesley Foundation with a monthly donation and also adopt a family from the community during the Christmas season.   The class meets in Room 504.  Contact Dr. Bill Mullins at 624-6744 or Paul Givens at 893-3455 for more information.

      SPARES AND PAIRS
      A discussion class of eclectic, opinionated, fun, healthy and supportive Christian empty-nesters.  Biblical topics, current issues, contemporary religious books and other religions are studied in an informal, relaxed, caring atmosphere. Class missions include Candle Wishes, MTSU Wesley Foundation, St. Marks UMYF, a family at Christmas and Care Packages to solders in Iraq. Spares and Pairs enjoys tailgating at MTSU football games and an annual Christmas gathering.  Spares and Pairs meets in Room 402/404.  Contact Vic McCauley at 890-5976 for more information.

      WOMAN TO WOMAN
      A new Sunday morning ministry just for women!    Join us as we study the scriptures, share our faith openly, discuss issues important to our lives today, and support one another on the path of Christian discipleship.  Woman to Woman is led by Claudia Hunter and meets in the Banquet Room.  Contact Claudia Hunter at 895-4103 for more information.
       


Other Activities of Interest to Adults
  • INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY 
    • Should a severe weather event occur that inhibits the ministry of the church throughout the week, the standard policy for cancellation rests upon the decision made by the Murfreesboro City Schools.  Should this school system choose to cancel school activities, ministries at St. Mark's will also be cancelled on that day.  Members are encouraged to check home page of the church website for specific cancellations - www.stmarkstn.org.
  • WEDNESDAY NIGHT TOGETHER
  • A variety of options are provided each Wednesday, 6:15 - 7:15 p.m. for adult fellowship, learning and spiritual growth. 
  • PRAYER MEETING 
  • Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. Prayer for the needs of our church, community, nation and world. In the Chapel. Cecil Smith.
  • DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY 
  • An intensive and transforming study of Scripture, covering 70% of the Bible. Classes of twelve begin each Fall and continue for 34 weeks. Levels I, II and III available. Rev. Martha Touchton 893-3455. 
  • OLDER ADULT MINISTRIES TEAM 
  • Hosts a variety of activities and excursions for older persons in our church and community. Dr. Jim CLardy 893-3455
  • LEISURE MINISTRIES 
  • Offers a golf league and tournaments, softball teams, basketball, volleyball and more. Wendell Philpott 896-1493.
  • ST. MARK'S MIXING BOWL
    • Provides an opportunity for members and friends to get to know each other through conversation or over a shared meal. Groups of 10-16 people meet casually for meals four times per year. New groups are formed each year. Registration necessary.
  • "MOMMIES AND DADDIES OF ST. MARK'S "
    • "Mommies and Daddies of St. Mark’s" is a support group for mothers of children age birth up to age 4 and a playgroup for those little ones. The group hosts events each month and tries to accommodate schedules of both stay at home mothers and those who work out of their home, part-time, or full-time. Each event offers an opportunity for the children as well as their moms. We hope the group will provide a valuable opportunity for each member to exchange advice, ideas, and friendship. There is no fee associated with “Mommies and Daddies of St. Marks” but occasionally there is a cost associated with our activities.  The group is open to anyone who attends and/or is a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
